Bradley Manning was born on December 17, 1987. Years later,
the Crescent, Oklahoma native, who is transgender, was granted the right to be
legally recognized as Chelsea Elizabeth Manning. After joining the Army, Manning
was sent to Iraq in 2009. There he/she had access to classified information
that she described as profoundly troubling. Manning gave much of this
information to WikiLeaks and was later arrested after her actions were reported
to the U.S. government by a hacker confidant. On July 30, 2013, Manning was
found guilty of espionage and theft, but not guilty of aiding the enemy. In
August 2013, he/she was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
There are many people/
philosophers in our society who still believe Bradley/Chelsea Manning has done nothing
wrong. One of the similar sentiments / statements are put forward by well-known
American philosopher Noam Chomsky. I don’t know why he would think or say that.
In “The Laura Flanders Show”, in the support of Bradley/Chelsea Manning, we can
see him saying that, “Bradley Manning is
a should be regarded as home a hero he is doing what a honest, decent citizens
be doing letting the population know what you're good with people who rule you
were doing...”.
I am just astonished by the statement that which considers Manning as a hero, honest, and
decent citizen. ? I couldn’t agree with the view presented by Mr. Chomsky. Why
he/she is hero? For putting numerous lives of own
colleagues on risk? How he/she became decent and honest citizen? By leaking military
information to outsiders? Why
somebody would disclose nearly three-quarters of a million of sensitive
military and diplomatic documents to WikiLeaks?
Who
takes guarantee that these WikiLeaks aren’t conspiring against U.S.? His/her
believe is everything? He/she doesn’t care about scores of other people who put
the uniform on them to this country and people? What about his/her own oath to the Military and this Country?
There
are many questions to be answered, I can’t condone the act of Manning against military/ this
country and at the same time do not agree with the view of Mr. Noam Chomsky
regarding Bradley/Chelsea Manning.
