JUSTICE!!!

Justice
“I say that the just is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger” - Thrasymachus

I agree with Thrasymachus’s statement that justice was made for the strong. We know that laws are made to maintain justice, however, who makes these laws? An interesting story was came to my mind pertaining to this argument. The McDonald’s Coffee incident that happened a few years ago. In this incident, a typical family goes to McDonald to get coffee, after leaving with the coffee, Stella Liebeck, a 79-year old, suffered from third-degree burns because the coffee got spilled on her. She then went ahead and sued McDonalds for the burn and won almost 3 million dollars from the case. After this incident, McDonalds went ahead and made some “laws” which prevented further incident like this from happening. By “incident” I’m referring to them getting sued and loosing. Because they have the power and money, they are able to set laws that maintains “justice” in their favor. So if anyone else sued them, they will always win (somehwhat). Which show that with power, you can manipulate justice. Although there are laws that are out there that are made to protect the weak, power still has more control over them.
Having the “ability” and having the “power” are two very different things. You may have the ability, however, if you have no way of defending what you do, you will get yourself in a lot of trouble. Even so, on a moral stand point, it is not okay to do it, even if you have the power to do it. However, if you have the ability and the right power, you can do it. Now, power in this case can be gained through several means. One way is by being the leading party that controls whatever need to be changed, another is by being given the authority by the controlling party. Also, power can come from another party who has equal or more authority than the current leading party. Yes, there are many levels to power and each has its own control over others, but if you don’t have the right authority to do something, it is not morally acceptable.
